A worked example

Input

https://sales.example.co.uk/contact
jane@example.co.uk

Output

example.co.uk — 2 occurrences

The Public Suffix List identifies co.uk as a suffix, so the registered domain is example.co.uk rather than co.uk.

What the result means

Registered-domain mode groups subdomains under the same site while respecting known private suffixes. Full-hostname mode keeps entries such as sales.example.com separate.

A domain is not proof of an active website or a company. Known private suffixes are respected; unknown suffixes and IP addresses are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a hostname and a registered domain?

A hostname can include a subdomain, such as sales.example.com. Registered-domain mode returns example.com. Known private suffixes such as github.io are respected, so independent hosted sites stay separate.

Does a domain result confirm an active business?

No. No website or company lookup is performed. The result comes from supplied text; verify the company’s activity, ownership and fit separately.
